Question by V: Anyone a Physical Therapist?
I’m a Senior in HS and i’m debating wether or not I really want to go into Physical Therapy. I’ve done some research but it changes from site to site. Can anyone who is, or knows a PT answer my questions?? Thank you!!
1) What kind of education to you get in college? ( besides Anatomy & Phys, like any math classes?)
2) What is the typical starting salary for a new college graduate?
3) How is the competition in college?
4) Where’s the best state to be employed?
Please trust that i’ve been doing my hw and trying to answer these on my own, but some SOLID trustworthy sources from an actual PT or someone who knows a PT would be amazing! Thank you!!

1. To become a PT, you need to earn a 3 year graduate degree in PT. Classses include: orthopedics, neurologic rehab, pediatrics, geriatrics, sports, cardiopulmonary, integument, kinesiology, physical agents, clinical medicine, gross anatomy, neurobio, research, business, basic patient care, business for PT, professionalism, and much more. It also includes approx one year of internships under a licensed PT in different specialities.
This will result in a DPT.
In order to get into PT school, you need a BS in anything as long as you complete the pre reqs. These include one year of gen bio, gen chem, gen physics, A and P, also math through calc, stats, and psy.
If I had to do it over again, I would go to cc, earn an AS in liberal arts science and take the pre reqs. I would then go to a state school and earn a BS in business or psy.
2. Salary varies from location to location and speciality to speciality. I would speak to PT in the area you want to work in. PT can start anwhere from 20-40 hours an hour. There a plenty of jobs. The more desperate an employer is the more bargining you have.
3.College is very competative. You need a 3.5 gpa to be competative. You need a 3.0 to even have your application looked at. Most schools have 20-40 slots, and have between 200-10000 applicants.
4. The best place to work is anywhere you want as I said there are plenty of jobs.
