Should I Go to an Urgent Care Clinic for My Migraine?

Question by : Should I go to an urgent care clinic for my migraine?
I’ve had a migraine for a little over 2 days now. It started sunday night/early monday morning. I woke up with a really bad headache and it localized to the left side of my head. I took some oral migraine medication, it didn’t even touch the pain. Then I took excedrin migraine…didn’t help much either. I was up the entire night last night writhing in pain. I finally fell asleep for a few hours and woke up in even more pain. I have done two of the prescription injections I was prescribed for my migraines. They helped for a few hours but my migraine is now back. I have to go to work tomorrow, what can I do? Should I go to an urgent care clinic? I am sitting in a dark room with sunglasses on but nothing is helping my head is just throbbing.

when it get this bad yes go. You need to break the pain cycle. I wouldn’t count on going to work tomorrow.
I really wish you the best that pain is something. You take care and God bless you.

Yes, go there. But this is what you should ask for: a steroid taper. This means a pack of Medrol (a steroid). You take 6 pills of 4mg each on the day you see them. Then each day you take one fewer pill (so 5 pills on day 2, 4 pills on day 3, 3 pills on day 4, 2 pill on day 5, 1 pill on day 6). The power anti-inflammatories in the steroids will kill the migraine and the taper will stabilize your body so you won’t get a migraine when done. This is a technique used at the best migraine clinics in the world, but your average doctor has never heard of it. Such a taper is more commonly used when someone has an asthma attack. So it might take a little doing to convince them to do this. But it will knock out the migraine like none of these other things have. It’s what you do after trying everything and having none of it work. Given that you’ve already taken a variety of migraine pills to no avail, I recommend this.
